As you grow more comfortable with Canvas over the following months, you will likely find new and interesting features that you will want to incorporate. Learning all these features can be overwhelming at first, and you might just want to know how you can build a basic course in the least amount of time. If you need to get up and running quickly, follow Canvas' recommended workflow for a "just the basics, ma'am" course.

This resource is designed to walk you through building a simple Canvas Course. Browse through the Freshman Writing Seminar as an example, and then download sample materials. Creating a sample course in your sandbox is optional, but would give you experience in developing a Canvas class.

To build a Simple Canvas Course, you need five things:

Syllabus text
Discussion prompt
Assignment prompt
Quiz (QTI .zip file)- Optional, but provides practice in loading a quiz question bank.
Course files (.zip file)- A zip file is optional. Individual files could be uploaded as well.
